The Archive's RSS feed appears to be broken. I have notified the tech crew. The report for today, July 29, is [here]
In The News: So much for a decrease of violence in Iraq. Three female suicide bombers set off explosions within an hour of each other near the entrance to a Shia mosque during the haj. Also a suicide bombing targeting the Kurdish government in Kirkuk. Scores may be dead, hundreds wounded. More. Juan Cole @ Informed Comment with still more.
The housing bailout bill that bails out the private mortgage re-insurers Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac passes in a rare Saturday session of the Senate. It's not veto-proof, but the President probably won't.
The countdown in the final week of this congressional session. The energy bill may not be voted on unless offshore drilling is on the agenda. More.
The government of Colombia is apparently negotiating with the rebel group FARC for a hostage exchange. Also, France refuses to offer asylum to members previously released.
In California 2000 homes are being threatened and 30-40 homes have been burned due to a new forest fire near Yosemite National Park and there are still 26 fires burning in California.
